What we evaluate
We start by measuring milk transfer with a weighted feed, then look at the whole picture: latch and feeding efficiency, your supply, your baby’s exam and growth trend, and the medical causes that can affect intake or weight.
Sometimes the answer is a feeding adjustment. Sometimes it is a supply or transfer problem. Sometimes it points to something medical that needs treatment or coordination with your pediatrician. We will tell you which, and what to do about it.

Does slow gain mean I have to switch to formula?
Usually not. Many causes are fixable. If supplementing is needed for a time, we build the plan to protect breastfeeding alongside it.
Will you work with my pediatrician?
Yes. We coordinate care and share findings so your baby’s providers are aligned.
How do you measure how much milk my baby gets?
A weighted feed: we weigh your baby before and after a feed on a sensitive scale to measure transfer directly. We repeat weighted feeds over several visits as we support you, work through any issues, and track progress until your baby is back on the right growth curve.
Is the visit covered by insurance?
Often, yes. We’re in-network with most major commercial plans, AHCCCS, and TRICARE. Because we often see families quickly, sometimes the same day or the next morning, and we offer Saturday visits, we can’t always confirm benefits before your visit, and we never let that delay care. These are medical visits, so your plan may apply a copay, coinsurance, or deductible. We’ll help you understand your coverage, and final benefit details are ultimately between you and your plan.
